The San Pedro Street Elementary School Green Schoolyard Project updates a historic school campus currently characterized with large expanses of asphalt play fields with new engaging and effective green outdoor classrooms. The project invests a vulnerable schoolyard surrounded with industrial uses with a forward-looking program designed to reduce heat-island effects and introduce interaction with green surfaces and plantings, along with instruction about their uses, care and maintenance. This project advances the LAUSD Green Schools for All goals by establishing healthy and sustainable spaces in this neighborhood.
