2007

A two-story addition and renovation transformed a conventional Hollywood bungalow into a dramatic hilltop retreat. Separate bedroom and bathroom suites connect around a shared, light-filled landing and stair, each with distinct environmental qualities and expansive views: one focused toward the ocean, the other toward the city.

A palette of uncomplicated building materials: glass, fiber-cement board and rough cement plaster work with the project’s geometry, admitting light and dramatic views at some points, creating space for quiet reflection at others. On the interior clerestories, abbreviated walls and sliding panels capture glimpses of space, daylight and strategic views between private and intimate spaces.
